The Writing and Reading Connections Program focuses on establishing positive writing and reading experiences for adolescents aged between 11 and 18.

Through a wide selection of contemporary books, the Reading Connections Program aims to create avid readers for life. Students are able to choose a book from a reading list that will most certainly trigger their interest but at the same time will ensure that they are reading at the correct level of their personal reading competency. Over a period of 3 years, students are exposed to several of Shakespeare's most famous plays. This course is designed using the Gradual Release Model. Students will be taught how to read the poetic language through direct instruction, group explorations and independent work. The course uses a range of materials, such as abridged versions, original texts, visual formats and movies to study the plays. Through a range of short stories, students are challenged to complete a wide range of vocabulary activities. By exploring a word within a context, students gain a deeper understanding of the meaning, purpose and function of the word.
